What are sequences?

An Email Sequence is a series of timed, automated emails sent to a contact. Unlike bulk email blasts, sequences are sent from your personal email address, personalized per contact, and stop automatically when the contact replies.

02

Creating a sequence

Go to Automation → Sequences → New Sequence. Add steps: each step is an email with a subject, body, and delay (e.g., "send 2 days after previous email"). You can have up to 10 steps per sequence.

03

Personalization variables

Use variables in subject lines and email bodies: {{first_name}}, {{company}}, {{title}}, {{owner.first_name}}, and any custom contact field. Variables are replaced with the actual contact values at send time.

04

Enrollment rules

Enroll contacts manually (select contacts → "Add to Sequence") or automatically via a Workflow Trigger (e.g., "when a deal is created, enroll the contact in the Outbound Sequence"). A contact can only be in one sequence at a time.

05

Reply detection

When a contact replies to any email in a sequence, they are automatically unenrolled and the remaining steps are cancelled. The reply is logged to the contact's timeline. You will receive an in-app and email notification.
